Anthropic has entered a seven year agreement with Akamai to provide the computing power necessary for the AI developer's expanding CPU workloads. The contract involves a firm commitment of $11.6B that could potentially grow to $20B through future expansion options. As part of the arrangement, Akamai issued warrants to Anthropic for up to 5% of the company, with 2% vesting upon the initial commitment and the remainder tied to additional cloud spending.

Akamai shares jumped over 20% in postmarket trading after the news. The company will spend $5.5B in capital expenditures to build the necessary capacity, including $1.7B in 2026 to secure memory components through a consignment deal with Jabil. Akamai also signed hardware and software agreements with Lenovo to support the ramp in infrastructure required for the Anthropic pact.
