Fei-Fei Li's artificial intelligence startup will be absorbed into AMD to bolster the company's research into spatial AI and robotics. The all-stock acquisition is valued at $8.2 billion and grants the chipmaker access to the startup's proprietary models and leading research team, while Dr. Li will join the company as Executive Vice President and Chief Scientist.

CEO Lisa Su said that developing compute platforms for next-generation AI requires a deep understanding of how models are evolving. AMD intends to use the expertise from World Labs to inform the design of its future AI hardware and computing infrastructure.
