Site operators can now collect fees from artificial intelligence tools via a new payment system in closed beta. The Monetization Gateway allows sellers to bill AI agents for every individual request they make, with the infrastructure provided by the Coinbase x402 Facilitator. All transactions are settled using the USDC stablecoin on the Base blockchain network.

Cloudflare, which currently powers 26% of all websites, has already deployed the system in production for four customer use cases. The initiative includes a "Pay Per Use" model where AI companies report their consumption of publisher content to automate the subsequent billing and payout processes.
