1 Murata Increases MLCC Capacity 20% for AI Servers and Cuts Low End Lines 🤖 AI Sep 13, 8:05 PM EDT 3/3
Murata will spend 80 billion yen on MLCC production equipment through the fiscal year ending March 2028 to target high heat resistance components. Vice President Masanori Minami is evaluating additional capacity expansions with a three to five year horizon, including the construction of new plant blocks in Japan and overseas. To free up production for high value parts, the company is discontinuing selected general purpose, industrial, and automotive product lines.
The company identifies power modules for AI servers as a growth area and has invested in Noetra, an AI foundation developer backed by SoftBank and 40 other Japanese firms. Current MLCC demand for AI racks exceeds that of conventional servers, driving a shift toward smaller, higher capacitance parts. Murata forecasts that AI related demand growth will continue through 2028 and is evaluating M&A opportunities to align its communications business with the 6G standard.
