1 Broadcom Keeps $230B AI Chip Revenue Target for 2028 Despite Slowdown Calls↩︎ 🤖 AI Sep 14, 7:23 PM EDT 284/145
Broadcom CEO Hock Tan reaffirmed AI semiconductor revenue targets of $115 billion in fiscal 2027 and $230 billion in fiscal 2028 after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's call for slower AI development rattled chip stocks Monday.
Broadcom still expects Anthropic to become its largest custom chip customer in 2027. Tan expressed particular confidence in inference demand, distinguishing it from training demand amid the debate over how quickly to develop more capable models.
Amodei's proposal calls for more time for safety work, not a halt to model training or technical progress. Asked on CBS whether Anthropic would stop releasing more advanced models, he said: “It doesn't mean that. What it means is that we need to make sure that every generation of models that we release is properly tested.” Anthropic and OpenAI have committed to giving independent evaluators access comparable to that of employees.
