Nvidia CEO Says Unsafe AI Labs Should Shut DownNVDA

The potential for civil and criminal litigation creates a strong incentive for firms to prioritize safety when releasing artificial intelligence products. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated on The Ezra Klein Show that while these legal and market pressures exist, the government should still have a regulatory role in the industry, and laboratories that cannot safely contain their experiments should shut down.

The increase in safety standards may also drive higher demand for processing power, as Huang noted that the compute required to develop models could increase by a factor of 10 to accommodate rigorous evaluation processes. He argued that executives have the personal responsibility to withhold any product from the market if they believe it is unsafe, regardless of external pressure to ship.
