A productivity surge stemming from its Astra AI led OpenAI to bring forward various updates originally planned for mid next year. The company revealed in a teaser that it will debut more than 20 new launches at its DevDay event on Tuesday, headlined by the "o" always-on assistant. This cloud-based agent is designed to compete with Meta's Muse and xAI's Grok Bot, providing persistent online compute and is available to all Pro tiers, including the $100 subscription.
Other core releases include Astra 6.1 and the unification of ChatGPT and Work into a single platform. Software builds from September 26 show the "o" agent—internally called "dots," "orbit," or "aeon"—supports email handling via a specific suffix. Additional reveals likely include a Cerebras-powered "Fast Mode" for a $500 subscription plan and a shared message board for AI agents.
