SoftBank Shares Plunge 13% After Sam Altman Rules Out 2026 OpenAI IPOPVT:OPAI

SoftBank stock dropped more than 11% following a confirmation that OpenAI will delay its initial public offering until after 2026. CEO Sam Altman told Fortune that a listing this year would be an "ill-advised moment" given artificial intelligence safety concerns. Altman stated the company is not rushing into a public market and can sustain profitability via revenue from the Astra model even if development slows.

SoftBank will invest nearly $65 billion in OpenAI by October, a commitment that contributed to shares plunging as much as 13% upon news of the delayed exit. The artificial intelligence startup is currently valued at approximately $1.6 trillion on the Liquid pre-IPO market, though Altman indicated a public listing is unlikely before 2027.
