▶President Trump told Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei that restrictive government rules could put his company out of business, stating that the U.S. will not "regulate itself out of the race" for artificial intelligence. Trump emphasized that the sector attracts trillions of dollars in investment and argued that losing the technological lead over China is a greater risk than the potential failures of AI models. He maintained that companies should manage their own responsibilities, adding that the Department of Justice would intervene if firms failed to fix problematic behavior.
The warning followed a private dinner on September 27 that Trump said lasted more than two hours, marking the first one-on-one meeting between the two. The meeting represents a reversal after months of hostility, during which a White House memo labeled Amodei's philosophy "cultish" and Trump mocked him on Truth Social. While other leaders, including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, recently questioned Amodei on his "extreme" risk warnings, Amodei has since stated that he believes the U.S. can "win safely" as relations with the administration thaw.
