Jeff D'Onofrio formally assumed the role of publisher and CEO of The Washington Post after Jeff Bezos removed the "acting" designation from his title in an email to staff on Sept. 9. A spokesperson for the publication stated the paper is on track to break even by the end of 2026, marking its closest path to profitability in five years.

The publication has sold more than 300,000 individual subscriptions year to date. D'Onofrio, who has led the paper for seven months, said he will build new revenue streams to reinvest in journalism before the organization celebrates its 150th anniversary next year.
