Lockheed Martin will construct four additional prototypes of its Vectis stealth drone beyond the initial airframe currently under production. The extra aircraft will validate production processes and accelerate flight trials for the Collaborative Combat Aircraft. The tailless design from the company's Skunk Works division features a "submerged" air inlet to increase survivability.

The first Vectis prototype flies by the end of 2027, but Lockheed will build and fly the four new vehicles more quickly. These additional internal investments follow the program's initial announcement last year. Company representatives provided photos today of the first airframe during its current assembly.
