Resistance from member governments has prompted the European Commission to reconsider the timing for implementing new emissions regulations. A commission spokesperson said staff are currently coordinating at a technical level to postpone the date that methane rules enter into force.

The proposal to shift the entry date follows opposition from EU member states regarding the mandates. This technical work is the first step before the agency officially proposes the postponement of the regulation's implementation.
