The UAE owned and Togo flagged tanker Trend caught fire and stopped after a strike by Iran's IRGC Navy in the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC alleged the ship attempted an "illegal passage" through the strategic waterway and warned that future unauthorized transits would lead to the destruction of the vessel. UKMTO reports the ship was hit by an unknown projectile, sparking a deck fire that was later extinguished, and all crew members are safe.

The strike on the Trend is one of three targeted tankers reported by UKMTO in the Strait of Hormuz over a 48 hour period ending Sept. 18. UKMTO issued security warnings 138-26 and 139-26 and separately confirmed a delayed report of a tanker strike on Sept. 16. No environmental impact has been confirmed, and maritime authorities advised vessels in the area to transit with caution and report suspicious activity.
