A vessel sailing outbound through the Strait of Hormuz was hit by an unknown projectile at 11:22 UTC on Oct. 2, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center reported. The strike caused a power blackout and a small fire on the tanker, which the crew extinguished before resuming the voyage. No casualties or environmental damage were reported following the incident.

This event is the 6th vessel strike reported in the strait this week. While the UKMTO did not identify the attacker, other reports attributed the strike to Iran, alleging the tanker was under US escort in the southern Omani corridor. Shipping analysts noted that the increasing pace of attacks has not yet notably depressed fuel flows through the region.
