Fuel wholesalers in the Great Lakes region saw a price decline on Friday as Exxon Mobil resumed operations at its Joliet refinery. Costs for wholesale gasoline dropped between 20 and 40 cents per gallon, easing retail pressure in states including Ohio and Illinois. The facility lost power through its utility provider ComEd, resulting in output losses that cost the producer tens of millions of dollars daily.

Wholesale diesel prices in the Midwest rose 11 cents per gallon despite the gasoline slide. The power failure hit during a peak demand season when U.S. diesel averages reached a record $6.45 per gallon. These disruptions highlighted the market's sensitivity to refinery downtime during a period of global supply constraints.
