Retail fuel buyers in the Midwest and Canada will see lower costs following the end of a power outage at a major production facility. ExxonMobil's plant in Joliet, Illinois, resumed operations, resulting in a 23c/gal drop in wholesale gasoline and an even larger decrease in diesel across Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, and Wisconsin.

The facility's restart provides relief to regions that were the hardest hit by supply shortages last week. The return to operations in Joliet removes the bottleneck that spiked retail prices in the Great Lakes region and restores regional distribution.

Canadian provinces Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan are seeing similar trends, with diesel prices potentially dropping 15 to 20c/L over the next two days. Gasoline in the Prairies may ease by 3 to 8c/L as the Joliet refinery restores its export supply chain to the north.
