Iran’s security chief Mohsen Rezaei said Tehran had given Washington four to five days to accept seven conditions, tying both further negotiations and reopening the Strait of Hormuz to US compliance. “Until Iran’s conditions are accepted, there will be no negotiations and the Strait of Hormuz will not be reopened,” he told state television. Oil climbed to session highs after his remarks, with Brent rising 2.3% to $101.49 a barrel and WTI gaining 1.7% to $92.09.

Tehran’s demands include ending the US naval blockade and the war on all fronts, releasing frozen Iranian assets and ending what Iran calls economic warfare, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said. Iran also demanded US acceptance of a shipping route through Hormuz agreed with Oman. Baghaei said Iran conveyed its conditions through a Qatari mediator in New York.

Despite Rezaei’s warning, a senior Iranian official told Reuters on Wednesday that diplomacy was continuing and Tehran was reviewing the US response to its proposal to end hostilities. The official said Tuesday’s indirect talks covered reopening Hormuz and lifting the blockade, though many differences remained. President Donald Trump described the New York discussions as “very good,” while US envoy Steve Witkoff said mediators had shuttled between the delegations.
