Saudi Arabia is working to bypass a section of its East-West oil pipeline damaged in last week’s drone attacks, aiming to restore about half its capacity within days, Bloomberg reported, citing a person familiar with the matter. Saudi Aramco is targeting a full return to capacity in about six weeks. The attacks halted the route, and US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said three pumping stations were hit.

The pipeline can carry up to 7 million barrels a day from Abqaiq to the Red Sea port of Yanbu, bypassing the disrupted Strait of Hormuz. A partial restart would still leave about 3.5 million barrels a day of Saudi Red Sea export capacity unavailable for roughly six weeks, oil analyst Rory Johnston estimated. Domestic refineries on the west coast would take priority for supplies, he said.

Oil loadings at Yanbu have been suspended, and Saudi Arabia has canceled some late-September crude cargoes for European refiners. Buyers are seeking alternatives: Eneos and Idemitsu Kosan bought Oman crude for loading as early as October, earlier than usual, traders familiar with the purchases said. In Europe, bids for some crude grades exceeded Dated Brent by $18 a barrel on Tuesday as refiners sought replacement cargoes.
