1 Saudi Arabia Halts Yanbu Oil Loadings After Pipeline Attack↩︎ 🛢️ Commodity Sep 15, 6:17 AM EDT 201/63
Saudi Arabia suspended oil loadings at Yanbu four days after a drone attack shut its East-West pipeline, and notified European customers that some late September crude cargoes were canceled. The Red Sea port handled 3.7 million BPD of crude and condensate loadings in early September before the attack, Vortexa data show. US crude futures extended gains to $5 a barrel as the cancellations and loading halt were reported.
Oil trading firm Onyx said Aramco had canceled its remaining September European allocations. Loadings continue at Ras Tanura on Saudi Arabia’s Gulf coast. Kpler estimates the kingdom has enough tanker capacity to redirect roughly 3 million BPD through that port, but doing so increases exposure to the Strait of Hormuz, which the East-West pipeline allows Saudi exports to bypass.
Kpler estimates the pipeline damage could cut Yanbu exports by 2.5 million to 2.7 million BPD, with repairs taking up to six weeks. US Energy Secretary Chris Wright offered a shorter timetable, telling CNBC on Tuesday that oil should begin flowing again “within days.” He also said US forces were aiding diverted Saudi oil shipments through Hormuz.
