A consortium of energy companies is finalizing the financial commitment to increase output at a major gas terminal as early as next week, according to people familiar with the matter. This investment will double the capacity of the LNG Canada project, which is the largest facility of its kind in the country, allowing Shell and other shareholders to scale up export operations.

Abu Dhabi’s state-owned XRG is exploring the acquisition of a stake in the Shell-led project as part of a broader strategy to become a major global supplier of natural gas. The expansion will solidify the facility's role as the primary conduit for shipping North American liquefied natural gas to international markets.
