NEWMetaMask Exits Ethereum Validators on Lido After Security Breach
topics 🪙 Crypto🔒 Cybersecurity tags CryptoCrypto HacksDeFi keywords Aave

An infrastructure compromise has forced the digital wallet provider to withdraw its staking nodes from the Lido protocol to protect client assets. MetaMask Staking, previously known as Consensys Staking, began removing affected Ethereum validators following an investigation into its internal systems, though there is no immediate threat to user wallets. The company plans to have the remaining validators exited by October 7, 2026.

The exit process may result in foregone rewards and downtime penalties, while the full cycle for withdrawal and re-entry is estimated to take up to 45 days. Lido uses a diverse operator set and an ad hoc reserve fund of over 6,750 stETH to mitigate disruptions to protocol operations. Aave reported no impact to its markets resulting from the incident.
