The Alpenglow consensus update has entered public testing, aiming to reduce the time required to finalize transactions from roughly 13 seconds to 150 milliseconds. This upgrade marks a transition from community cluster rehearsals, which lasted more than 4 months, to a formal activation path for the network's consensus system.

Solana validators on mainnet-beta are currently recommended to upgrade to Agave v4.3 to prepare for the eventual deployment. The move to public testnet serves as the final validation step for the migration process before the upgrade potentially moves to mainnet-beta to widen the network's speed advantage over competitors.
