Former X head of product Nikita Bier recently called the distribution of unexpected funds to account holders a "pretty creative hack" of the platform's financial infrastructure. The project, known as UsePaid, claims it has sent nearly $1.5 million in total transfers to various profiles by routing creator fees from Solana meme coins through X Money. This system allows tokens to automate cash payouts to any specific X handle, regardless of whether the recipient requested the funds.

Some recipients have reported receiving tens of thousands of dollars in unexpected transfers, which they termed a "financial DDoS." Effective Accelerationism founder Gill (@beffjezos) established a nonprofit think tank called Kardashev Research using more than $100,000 of these payments to challenge AI "doomer" narratives. UsePaid is an independent operation and is not affiliated with X, although Bier suggested users should be given an option to opt out of the inflows.
