1 Court Serves Wrong Man in Cornell 7 Lawsuit Triggering US Marine Doxxing 🎭 Culture Sep 30, 9:08 PM EDT 6/5
A 23 year old sergeant in the Marine Corps was subjected to targeted harassment and death threats after being incorrectly named in a legal action. Matthew Ingalls was mistakenly served with a 101 page lawsuit accusing seven Cornell University students of raping and sexually abusing a female student at a Chi Phi fraternity house in October 2024. The court listed the sergeant's residence in upstate New York on the official docket despite the fact that he never attended the university, leading online vigilantes to dox the family and post their phone numbers and address online.
Victoria Ingalls, the mother of the sergeant, said her family has been terrorized by messages and threats, including texts sent to her 26 year old daughter and posts featuring images of woodchippers. The incident was reported by Frannie Block for The Free Press. The family is currently pleading with the public to stop the harassment resulting from the identification error.
