Kennedy Center Board Votes Immediate Closure for 2 Year Renovation↩︎

A board appointed by Donald Trump voted to shut down the Kennedy Center's main building immediately after structural inspections identified the site as "unsafe" and "hazardous." The decision on Sept. 15 followed a federal court ruling that restricted the board's authority to rename the facility after the president.

The venue will remain closed for a 2 year renovation to address ceiling failures and water damage. This closure follows weeks of internal warnings from center officials that the institution was facing a "certain fiscal collapse" and insolvency that threatened payroll and maintenance contracts.
