New York state prosecutors are managing threatening phone calls while reviewing additional evidence in a criminal probe into a student assault at Cornell University in 2024. Diego Sarabia, one of seven men accused in the case, was terminated from his position at Wells Fargo after state authorities reopened the investigation this month. The case centers on allegations that a 20 year old woman was lured to a fraternity house, drugged with ketamine, and raped by seven individuals over the course of 7 hours.

The investigation was revived following a civil lawsuit that alleged Cornell failed to protect the victim, a move the university administration now supports after previously calling the accuser's claims irresponsible. While Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has cited the incident as evidence of a protected culture of assault at elite colleges, defense lawyers have dismissed the charges as a money grab. Some reports indicate the plaintiff previously sent text messages to an assailant stating the sexual activity was consensual and not illegal.
