The hacking collective ShinyHunters says it compromised the Human Resources, Criminal Justice, and Medlink systems of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The organization gave FBI Director Kash Patel and Assistant Director Brett Leatherman 1 week to remove a 2026 Quarter 2 FLASH report that contains allegations of harassment and swatting against the group. The breach provides sensitive information on nearly every FBI special agent and individual who applied for a position at the agency.

The attackers defaced the FBI Jobs landing page before the site was reverted to a maintenance screen and shared stolen data samples with journalists. In a message posted to its portal, ShinyHunters denied that the attack was financially motivated, describing the operation as a response to "disinformation" and "unfounded allegations" within the government report.
