Domestic vehicle sales fell 6.6% year over year to 509,764 units, according to the company's latest volume report. The decline was driven by a collapse in electric vehicle sales, which dropped 80.2% to 6,047 units, and a 19.7% decrease in hybrid vehicle sales to 44,308 units. Despite the contraction in these segments, Ford maintained its position as the No. 3 automaker in the US market, holding off competition from Hyundai.
A supplier issue impacting F-150 truck production caused disruptions during the third quarter. The company stated the financial effect of this issue will be manageable and containable within its existing full year adjusted EBIT guidance.
