Foreign Minister Wang Yi hosted Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi in Beijing on September 16 to discuss the de-escalation of regional hostilities. During the meeting, Wang requested that the United States and Iran return to the Pakistan-brokered Islamabad memorandum of understanding from June. He pressed for effective measures to restore maritime access to the Strait of Hormuz at an early date to prevent further economic disruption.

The Chinese minister warned that current conflict levels risk spilling into Yemen and the Red Sea. Wang advocated for dialogue between Tehran and Persian Gulf states based on mutual security and sovereignty, stating that ongoing hostilities serve neither the combatants nor the international community.
