The Bundeswehr intends to modernize its arsenal with long distance weaponry capable of hitting targets from the ground. An internal government planning document indicates a plan to earmark nearly €3.4 billion for Lockheed Martin Typhon launchers and Tomahawk cruise missiles. This purchase would provide Germany with its first ground based long range strike capability, replacing a previously proposed US controlled system that the Trump administration scrapped.

Berlin is pursuing a role for European industry in the supply chain and exploring possible co production for the hardware, though no deal is finalized. The procurement remains subject to parliamentary and budgetary approval, and the total spend may change before the government completes the process.
