Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi traveled to the Chinese capital on September 16 to coordinate a strategy for de-escalating tensions with Washington. During a meeting with Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Araghchi stated that Iran is not interested in continuing the conflict with the United States and seeks a return to a diplomatic solution.

Wang Yi urged both nations to stay rational and exercise restraint during the bilateral meeting. He specifically called for a return to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding to rebuild negotiation mechanisms on the basis of previous consensus and conduct substantive consultations on issues of respective concern.
