NEWLithuania Reopens Vilnius Airport After NATO Jets Scramble for Belarus Drone
🌐 Geopolitics Oct 3, 3:00 AM EDT 9/4
The Lithuanian national crisis control centre triggered a yellow air-raid alert on Oct 3 to address a potential security breach near the eastern border. Military forces deployed fighter aircraft to intercept an unidentified flying object entering from Belarus, which led to the temporary closure of controlled airspace around the capital.
Vilnius Airport has since resumed operations and the air-raid warning was cancelled after aviation assets failed to detect any objects in the region. A Lithuanian Air Force helicopter is conducting a follow-up inspection of the area where the radar signal disappeared, though authorities noted the object could have been a flock of birds.
