Former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet dropped her application for the United Nations' highest administrative post on Saturday. She had been one of 8 candidates seeking the position of UN secretary-general.

The withdrawal comes weeks after a straw poll showed Bachelet in second to last place among the field. The former head of state stepped aside from the process to conclude her pursuit of the top UN job following the result of the informal vote.
