Former Costa Rican Vice President Rebeca Grynspan has emerged as the top candidate to run the United Nations in straw polls administered by the Security Council. Sources close to the process said an informal poll placed Grynspan as the frontrunner to become the organization's 10th secretary-general.

Jerome Bonnafont, the UN envoy for France, confirmed that the most recent of 4 rounds of voting is now complete. Grynspan, whose parents were Jewish refugees who fled World War II, has maintained a fairly consistent lead in these sessions to identify a successor for the world body's top diplomatic post.
