Bessent noted that the trade truce between the two nations was extended for 2 months, and Xinhua news reported an agreement on a new joint arrangement on trade. Xi urged the US to adopt a stance of opposing Taiwan independence, which differs from the current US position of not supporting such independence.

On artificial intelligence, Xi called for dialogue to prevent abuse and insisted that the technology must remain under human control. He also advocated for the US and Iran to return to a Memorandum of Understanding to maintain talks. Trump and Xi are scheduled to meet again this year at the APEC summit in Shenzhen in November and the G20 summit in Miami in December.
