Prime Minister Andy Burnham used a speech to the United Nations on Tuesday to call the military campaign in Gaza a genocidal war. He announced the imposition of UK sanctions on illegal Israeli settlements in Palestinian territories, stating that the security of the Israeli state does not justify the government's actions in Gaza or the West Bank.

Burnham reaffirmed that Britain supports Israel against threats from Iran and others targeting Jewish people globally. He committed the UK to doing everything possible to ensure Israeli and Palestinian populations live in peace and security, stressing the need for a viable two-state solution.
