German police are conducting a search for debris after an unknown aircraft fell in an open area east of Lake Steinhuder Meer on Sept. 15. The wreckage was found approximately 1 kilometer from Wunstorf Air Base, the main hub for the Bundeswehr's Airbus A400M transport fleet and home to the 62nd Air Transport Wing. Authorities stated the facility was not damaged and the crash posed no danger to the public.

Investigators are analyzing recovered parts to determine the drone's origin and ownership. This incident follows a case in August when a drone carrying explosives was discovered at Leipzig/Halle Airport near a Ukrainian An-124, an event German investigators are examining for possible links to Russian military intelligence.
