1 DHS Says No Credible US Threat After Flydubai Cockpit Attack 🌐 Geopolitics Sep 30, 1:51 AM EDT 1122/168
US Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said there is “No credible threat to the United States” after the attempted attack aboard a Flydubai flight bound for Israel, while aviation security remains on heightened alert.
Israeli officials allege the Omani co-pilot stabbed Indian Captain Smit Machchhar and tried to crash Flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv on Wednesday. The wounded captain opened the cockpit door, allowing passengers and crew to subdue the attacker, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. Additional pilots aboard the aircraft landed it safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, and the passengers later reached Israel on a replacement flight. India's embassy said Machchhar was reported to be in stable condition.
Flydubai suspended flights to and from Israel during the investigation. Emirates is also barring passengers from boarding overseas flights if their itinerary connects in Dubai to a Flydubai flight to Tel Aviv. The UAE prosecutor general is examining possible terrorism, prior planning or outside direction. Netanyahu said it remains too early to establish Iranian involvement, while Flydubai said the reasons and motives remain unknown.
