European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen signed a joint declaration with Greenland and Denmark for a partnership package covering 2026 and 2027. The €200 million investment prioritizes "the big C's"—connectivity, clean energy, and critical raw materials. The bloc proposed a budget shift to move more than double existing funding for Greenland to €530 million through 2034.

The investment package follows claims from Donald Trump regarding U.S. annexation of the island. Von der Leyen stated that the EU stands in solidarity with Denmark, citing territorial integrity and the inviolability of borders as fundamental principles of international law. Denmark's prime minister said the government will work closer with European allies in the Arctic region.
