President Donald Trump told reporters on Friday that the conflict in Tehran was a key topic of conversation during his meetings with the Chinese leader in Washington. Trump stated he believes the two countries will "do great" following the talks, but members of the Republican party in the Senate have since expressed frustration over the president's warm demeanor toward President Xi Jinping given reports that Beijing has provided support to Iran.

US Ambassador David Perdue said Trump informed Xi that any direct or indirect assistance to Tehran, including military equipment and intelligence, is totally unacceptable. This ultimatum follows reports that China sent roughly 1,300 air shipments of dual-use drone and missile components to Iran's Defense Ministry through June. Perdue noted that Washington has already seen evidence that Beijing is curtailing certain activities after the US repeatedly raised the issue in recent weeks.
