Netanyahu Secretly Visited UAE to Get Oct 7 Warning Denied

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is under scrutiny for allegedly attempting to hide intelligence failures that left the country vulnerable to a massive terrorist offensive last year. Reports indicate that Netanyahu conducted a clandestine trip to the United Arab Emirates to pressure officials to retract a warning about the attack, according to allegations surfacing ahead of Israel's upcoming election. Further reports from the Wall Street Journal state that Egypt's intelligence chief also issued a warning, while the former head of Shin Bet has filed a defamation lawsuit against Netanyahu, alleging his own warnings were ignored.

The current backlash stems from reporting by the New York Times and Haaretz that UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed secretly warned Netanyahu in September 2023 of a pending Hamas attack. Critics point to a security meeting on Oct. 1, 2023, where Netanyahu reportedly discussed Gaza but omitted the warning. While Netanyahu's office denies these events took place and he has filed a libel suit against Haaretz, reporter Barak Ravid noted that Israeli intelligence services had already received the information via official channels but failed to take it seriously enough.
