Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the government provided the diplomatic framework for representatives from Washington and Tehran to meet in Islamabad to resolve a serious dispute. These discussions led to the June Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which the Prime Minister said took historic steps to end the conflict. Sharif credited Field Marshal Asim Munir, the Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of the Army Staff, for establishing the diplomacy under challenging circumstances.

Pakistan continues to mediate between the two nations to maintain the diplomatic process. Iran’s President Pezeshkian informed Sharif this week that the provisions of the June agreement remain fully acceptable to Tehran.
