Rubio Revokes Visas of 17 officials and Families in Latin America
▶

Bolivian Attorney General Roger Mariaca is now barred from entering the United States after allegations that he accepted bribes to help drug traffickers evade justice. Secretary of State Marco Rubio revoked travel documents for 17 individuals and their family members from Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru on charges of corruption and narco-trafficking. The State Department is also moving to impose visa restrictions on 20 additional corrupt officials in Bolivia.

President Abelardo de la Espriella of Colombia welcomed the bans on a senator and a businessman linked to previous administrations and warned that more Colombian visas will be cancelled. In contrast, a former president of the Colombian Senate tied to the UNGRD embezzlement scandal claimed the U.S. actions were steered by those behind the fraud to conceal the case's true dimensions and perpetrators.
