Trump Rejects Global AI Controls for Status Quo With China

The United States will not support new international regulations to slow the progress of superintelligence, President Donald Trump announced. Trump stated that he and Chinese President Xi Jinping both intend to keep the technology at its current trajectory and noted that the Department of Justice serves as the domestic guardrail for AI development ahead of a summit with Xi.

White House science adviser Michael Kratsios told the UN Security Council on Sept 23 that the US rejects any "globalist scheme of control" for artificial intelligence. Kratsios argued that the rapid pace of the field does not justify pausing development or creating new global governance structures, instead urging national governments to build their own technical capacity.
