The US and China agreed to cut tariffs on $30 billion of non-sensitive goods in each direction, the White House said, the main concrete economic outcome of Xi Jinping's three-day state visit to Washington. US exports covered include agricultural goods, seafood, wood products, cosmetics and medical devices, while Chinese consumer items such as small appliances, toys, holiday decorations and children's car seats are eligible. The tariff changes are recommendations for now and are not yet in force.

China also committed to import at least 10 million metric tons of US coal in 2027 and 2028. The two sides operationalized the US-China Board of Trade, which will handle the tariff work alongside a new agricultural market access group, and created a Board of Investment as a formal channel for investment opportunities and impediments. The trade truce was extended by two months, and rare earths and other critical minerals remain under discussion, the White House said.

On AI, the two countries agreed to a dialogue on what both sides are calling super intelligence, with the next exchange planned for November 2026 in Shenzhen, plus a bilateral channel for AI incidents. Trump said he would not integrate US AI efforts with China, arguing "when you're leading, you don't open it up to each other." China's foreign ministry said it "values the US position and respects the US terminology" when asked about the super intelligence wording. Taiwan barely featured in the talks, Trump said, though Xi pressed him to oppose Taiwanese independence and handle the issue prudently, and Ambassador David Perdue said US policy is unchanged. Ian Bremmer said the relationship "hasn't moved a bit from summit" beyond the two month truce extension.
