A heavy battalion of U.S. Army Abrams tanks and an engineer battalion will arrive in Lithuania at the end of October. The deployment includes about 1,000 troops on a 9 month rotation, Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas said. The forces will fill a security void after the previous U.S. unit departed the Baltic state in June without a designated replacement.

President Gitanas Nausėda confirmed that the troop rotation is already underway and expressed gratitude to the U.S. administration for the decision. The reinforcement of NATO's Eastern Flank is intended to strengthen collective defense and deterrence in the region.
