This initiative, known as Operation Economic Outcast, seeks to isolate Tehran and limit its ability to fund the war in the Middle East by tightening the international banking system's oversight.

The drive to sever Tehran's financial ties includes the recent designation of Russia's VTB Bank, the only Russian lender with a licensed branch in mainland China, for sanctions evasion. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the U.S. will continue to identify and expose enablers that allow the Iranian regime to sustain its terrorist enterprise.
