The Trump administration cleared the potential sale of 48 Lockheed Martin F-35 stealth fighter jets and 49 Pratt & Whitney engines to Saudi Arabia. Announced on Thursday, the $24.3 billion package includes communication equipment and spare parts to bolster the kingdom's defense against intensifying attacks from Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen. The State Department formally notified Congress of the deal, though first jets arrive in five years.

U.S. intelligence agencies raised concerns that China could acquire sensitive technology through security relationships with Riyadh or espionage. In response to the notification, an Israeli official confirmed to Walla that Israel will seek compensation through access to classified weapons programs and joint development of Arrow 4 and Arrow 5 interceptors. The Saudi Embassy in Washington stated the sale reflects the enduring nature of the strategic partnership between the two nations.
