The United States is denying army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan a travel visa for the upcoming UN General Assembly. Washington is conditioning the official's attendance on the acceptance of a proposed 90 day ceasefire, a requirement that Burhan’s representatives rejected as a “take-it-or-leave-it” approach.

The State Department stated that neither the Sudanese army nor the Rapid Support Forces have demonstrated a serious commitment to an immediate ceasefire. Sudan has requested that the UN intervene to address the travel restrictions and the impasse over the US backed peace plan.
