Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair wore the name "Hind Rajab" on his face markings during a game against the Buffalo Bills, resulting in a league penalty. A spokesperson for the NFL announced Wednesday that Al-Shaair was fined $11,492 for violating policies that ban political statements and personal messages during play. Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving offered to pay the fine via a social media post.

This penalty follows a similar fine Al-Shaair received last season for a message that read "Stop The Genocide." The 29 year old linebacker, who is a practicing Muslim, has often spoken on the situation in Gaza. Imran Ghani, Director of Operations at CAIR-Houston, accused the NFL of allowing similar pins from the "Stand Up to Jewish Hate" campaign while punishing players for mentioning a girl killed in the conflict.
